Election commission publishes first official preliminary results from Kosovo vote

The province's Central Election Commission issued the first preliminary results Monday 19 November of the parliamentary and local elections held Saturday 17 November. The results, based on 80% of ballots, confirmed the victory of the main opposition Democratic Party of Kosovo, with 34% of the vote.
The Democratic League of Kosovo was second with 21.8%. Third and fourth went to the Alliance for a New Kosovo and the Democratic League of Dardania with 12.1% and 10.4%, respectively. The only other party that will make parliament is the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo, with 9.9%.
In a statement Monday 19 November, NATO Secretary-General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer expressed disappointment over the Kosovo Serbs' boycott of the elections and the record low turnout. He encouraged political parties to work quickly towards the formation of a new government.
