Maxim Reznik released from custody

25 March 2008

On 24 March, Yabloko St. Petersburg leader Maxim Reznik was released from custody. On 21 March, a court had already ordered the release of Maxim, who had been detained by the police during the night of 2 March on charges of disrupting public order and hitting a police officer. However, many suspected the charges were in fact politically motivated.

Upon his release, Yabloko St. Petersburg sent out the following message:

Dear friends and colleagues,

I am happy to inform you that leader of St Petersburg Yabloko Maxim Reznik was released from prison yesterday.
So to say "investigation" on him is going on, but he is not a prisoner for a moment!
It is a victory of all of us, may be small victory, but anyway we forced "this system" to pay attention to public opinion.
Your help was significant and for sure all of us may state that we managed to get a result; every person, who supported Reznik somehow helped democratic development of Russia.
Thanks a lot for your efforts!!!
Dear friends, thanks a lot from all St Petersburg Yabloko!!!

With very best regards,
Alexander Vigandt
member of board of St Petersburg Yabloko
